Specialized Training Assistance Program

Your medical training can take many paths. The Army National Guard can help you receive advanced training that will help you pursue your desired specialty, both within the Guard and after your service is complete.

If you're training in the specialties listed below, you are eligible for the Specialized Training Assistance Program (STRAP), which offers a monthly stipend of nearly $1,319. To qualify, you must be unconditionally accepted into the education program or residency for which you seek funding.

The Army National Guard is currently offering STRAP eligibility to applicants pursuing the following specialties:

  • Orthopedic Surgeon
  • Family Practice
  • Emergency Medicine
  • General Surgery
  • OB-GYN
  • Psychiatry
  • Internal Medicine
    • Subspecialties of Internal Medicine:
      • Preventive Medicine
      • Gastroenterology
      • Cardiology
      • Endocrinology
      • Nephrology
      • Medical Oncology/Hematology
      • Infectious Disease
      • Pulmonary Disease
      • Rheumatology
  • General Dentistry Practitioners
