SPC Larissa Taylor—Hero On Call

I joined the Army Reserves on December 12, 2003. I guess you would say that I joined the military to make something of myself and to make my family proud. My grandfather was the main reason and my mother and sister were the second. I became the third generation in my family to join the Army.

I was stationed out of Fort Wayne, Indiana at the 384th MP Company as a 92Y. Upon returning from my AIT, I came across an old friend who was an NCOIC for a recruiting team in Indiana. He asked me if I was interested in recruiting and I said yes and applied for the job. I came on as an ADSW in 79T, Recruiting and Retention on March 1, 2006, and went to recruiting school in April to May 2006.

I resigned my position due to my family. I now have three children and a husband who is a recruiter for the National Guard in the state of Indiana. I am now considered a Traditional Soldier where I do only one weekend a month and two weeks in the summer. I transferred into a new MOS (job) in a Military Police Unit. I am an Accounting Specialist (44C). I do the payroll and go over the roster after my commander and 1SG have gone over it.

I enjoy being able to take care of my family, being a part of Hero On Call, and at the same time being able to serve in the Army National Guard. Plus, I can go to college and obtain my degree with 100% Tuition Assistance from the Army National Guard. This is the best decision that I made for myself and for my family.
