CDT Jacob McLemore—Hero On Call

I joined the Guard fresh out of high school. I joined in May 2006 and left for basic training in July. I attended basic training at Fort Jackson, SC, and after graduating I went to Fort Huachuca, AZ, for seven months for my advanced individual training (AIT) training.

I am now going to college and working on a degree in criminal justice. I am also in the ROTC program and plan on becoming an officer after graduating.

I have had nothing but positive experiences with the National Guard and believe it is one of the smartest things I have ever done. It feels like my fellow Soldiers are like a second family to me!
