SGT Peter Paradis—Hero On Call

I joined the Maine Army National Guard in 2001 as a junior in high school. I completed Split Operations Training going to basic training in between my junior and senior years, and completed my advanced individual training after graduating.

I have been deployed twice in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom—the first time as a corrections officer and the second time performing convoy security operations. Both times were in high-tempo areas where I was able to use all of my training to save lives and protect my fellow Soldiers.

Being in the Army National Guard has been a great experience for me. I have traveled throughout the United States on various training missions and been to several other countries. Being in the Guard provides me with a sense of purpose and the leadership skills I need to advance in my civilian career. As a civilian, I build and repair computers.
